Maybe they are crushing it in ways you wish you were. Maybe they’re doing what you know you "should" be doing. Or maybe they just make you feel like you’re not measuring up.
It's OK to unfollow them. You're not being petty. You're not being unprofessional and I am going to tell you why in just a sec.
But first…
Welcome to the very first edition of Your Brand At Work
If you shared your email with me last week it’s good to see you! If you shared it more than a few months ago and are just hearing from me … well, that’s on me😬.
But I’m here now, and I promise to make this worth your time.
And … as you can tell, this is a REAL TALK newsletter all about building a personal brand at work.
No fluff. No influencer stuff. Just practical, actionable strategies to help you:
Thrive in your role
Lead with influence
Get recognized and respected for the work you do
But before we get back into today’s topic—let’s be honest. Nobody wants noise in their inbox. So if this isn’t your thing, just hit unsubscribe. No hard feelings. Promise! We can still stay connected on LinkedIn or on IG.
Still here? Good.
You ever log onto LinkedIn, Instagram, or wherever… and BAM!
There it is. That one post.
The one that hits you in a way you weren’t expecting.
Maybe it sparks a little jealousy.
Maybe it makes you feel behind.
Maybe it reminds you of something you should be doing but aren’t.
Maybe… that person just annoys you.
I hate when I feel that way.
But let’s be real—we all do sometimes. So let me say this loud and clear:
Unfollow Them. It’s OK.
Seriously head over to their profile and unfollow them. And don’t worry—they won’t get a notification.
✅ On LinkedIn or Facebook? You can unfollow and still stay connected.
✅ On Instagram, TikTok, or Substack? Just mute their posts so they stop showing up in your feed.
Why?
It’s not because they did anything wrong. This isn’t about jealousy or hate. It’s about protecting your peace and making sure you’re stepping into spaces that motivate rather than drain you. YOUR feed should make YOU feel good."
That being said, I’m not letting you off that easy.
Sometimes, that trigger is a mirror, reflecting something you need to work on. But if it’s only making you feel stuck instead of inspired? Unfollow. Then ask yourself why—and what you can do about it on your end.
Don’t let a few posts steal your focus—or the opportunities to build your brand where it matters.
ALRIGHT… I'M A LITTLE CURIOUS
I sure did… and I feel a lot better for it.
Until next time, happy branding!
Cher

Remember branding works, when you do the work!
Loved the first edition of Your Brand at Work, Cher. The professional comparison-itis is a horrible disease, so we must be "preventative" and "protect our peace" at all costs.
Amazing and practical advice. YES to skipping the "I'm honored" verbiage.
